Pleiades XV. Without doubt, Sean Thackrey is one of wine's most singular and erudite individuals. In his spare time, he translates medieval winemaking texts, for the benefit of others, and makes several of the world's most astonishing wines, in his back garden. Unassuming and charismatic, nothing is too much trouble and everything is worth the effort. The wines are wonderful.
The Jem. Waterford's flagship wine combines Bordeaux varieties with a dash of Mourvèdre and Barbera to deliver a beautifully structured jewel. Hints of lead pencil shavings are infused with truffle like flavours, finishing with spice and earthiness. Layers of very finely intergrated tannins combine with refined fruit flavours to offer an elegant yet long lasting finish that is classically dry and rewarding.
"The wine of Kings and the King of wines." The wine has a rich caramelised orange flavour, notes of ginger marmalade and incredible length. 1999 was an outstanding vintage – one of the best in living memory. Exquisite with a fine Crème Brûlée.
From humble beginnings in the 1950s, Grange has maintained its place as Australia's most prestigious red wine over four decades. Today, it is a wine of international renown, with each vintage eagerly awaited by collectors both in Australia and overseas. It is a wine of extraordinary dimension and power. Richly textured, intensely concentrated and packed with fruit sweetness, these wines, regardless of vintage, require medium to long-term cellaring. They develop into immensely complex, beguiling wines that seduce the senses.
